Practice of love and compassion

"Some people consider the practice of love and compassion is only related to religious practice and if they are not interested in religion they neglect these inner values.

"We have a largely materialistic lifestyle characterized by a materialistic culture. However, this only provides us with temporary, sensory satisfaction, whereas long-term satisfaction is based not on the senses but on the mind. That’s where real tranquility is to be found. And peace of mind turns out to be a significant factor in our physical health too." (From His Holiness the Dalai Lama's facebook on September 18, 2013)

Inner values

"We all want to live a happy life and have a right to do so, whether through work or spiritual practice. I’m subject to destructive emotions like anger and jealousy the same as you, but we all have potential for good too. However, our existing education system is oriented towards material development; neglecting inner values. Consequently we lack a clear awareness of the inner values that are the basis of a happy life." (From His Holiness the Dalai Lama's facebook on September 9, 2013)
Cf. https://www.facebook.com/DalaiLama/posts/10151632713977616

Power of intention

Q:
Do you think that the power of intention is all the same?

A:
I think that the power of intention is different. I think that the intention means motivation in other words and is deeply connected with our mind. Positive motivation will be our hope, optimism and vision, and negative motivation will be our despair and pessimism. The stronger our emotions and feelings are, the more intense the power of intention will become. The power of intention can be also said as determination, enthusiasm and willpower, and is related to honesty, sincerity, transparency. The URL below is for your reference.

Cf. http://www.slideshare.net/compassion5151/motivation-english

Source of Self-confidence

"It’s in our interest to take care of others. Self-centredness is opposed to basic human nature. In our own interest as human beings we need to pay attention to our inner values. Sometimes people think compassion is only of help to others, while we get no benefit. This is a mistake. When you concern yourself with others, you naturally develop a sense of self-confidence. To help others takes courage and inner strength." (From His Holiness the Dalai Lama's facebook on September 3, 2013)
Cf. https://www.facebook.com/DalaiLama/posts/10151621412272616

http://www.slideshare.net/compassion5151/ss-24693603
