Do we see reality as it is?

Watch the following video of "Do we see reality as it is?".

The followings are my comments on this video.

I understand as follows:
* perception of reality = illusion (by Ego)
* insight of reality = reality (by Awareness)

David Bohm said, "The way we see depends on the way we think". So, everything depends on who "we" are. If we are ego (separate self), we think and what we see is the projection of our mind, namely an illusion. Meanwhile, if we are awareness (non-separate self), we don't think and can directly touch the reality as it is. In other words, we become one with the reality without differentiation between subject and object

The Buddha advised us not to be fooled by what we perceive. He said, "Where there is perception, there is deception." The Buddha also taught on many occasions that most of our perceptions are erroneous, and that most of our suffering comes  from wrong perceptions. And wrong perceptions are caused by ego's thinking (brain).

David Bohm also said, "Consciousness is much more important than money. Change in consciousness is essential." Yes, we can transform consciousness from ego to awareness only by one in-breath. And we can be always awareness (subconscious) through mindfulness, concentration and insight, like Buddha and Thich Nhat Hanh.

Entropy

The followings are excerpts from "A New Physics Theory of Life".
(Refer to: https://www.quantamagazine.org/20140122-a-new-physics-theory-of-life/)

Quote:
"Jeremy England argues that under certain conditions, matter will spontaneously self-organize. This tendency could account for the internal order of living things and of many inanimate structures as well. “Snowflakes, sand dunes and turbulent vortices all have in common that they are strikingly patterned structures that emerge in many-particle systems driven by some dissipative process,” he said. Condensation, wind and viscous drag are the relevant processes in these particular cases."

"He is currently running computer simulations to test his theory that systems of particles adapt their structures to become better at dissipating energy. The next step will be to run experiments on living systems."
:Unquote

(My commentary)
England said, "under certain conditions, matter will spontaneously self-organize." Does this mean that matter, or each particle has mind, or the capacity to make choices? Freeman John Dyson said, "Atoms and humans and God may have minds that differ in degree but not in kind. --- Atoms in the laboratory are weird stuff, behaving like active agents rather than inert substances. They make unpredictable choices between alternative possibilities according to the laws of quantum mechanics. It appears that mind, as manifested by the capacity to make choices, is to some extent inherent in every atom." I feel that England and Dyson are saying the same thing.

Wholeness: A Coherent Approach to Reality

Watch the following video. What David Bohm says is exactly the same as what Buddha said by emptiness.

Wholeness: A Coherent Approach to Reality – David Bohm

“I think the difficulty is this fragmentation.. All thought is broken up into bits. Like this nation, this country, this industry, this profession and so on… And they can’t meet. That comes about because thought has developed traditionally in a way such that it claims not to be effecting anything but just telling you the way things are. Therefore, people cannot see that they are creating a problem and then apparently trying to solve it… Wholeness is a kind of attitude or approach to the whole of life. If we can have a coherent approach to reality then reality will respond coherently to us.”

The following is a transcript for the video “Wholeness & Fragmentation,” a short excerpt from David Bohm’s presentation in Amsterdam, in 1990, as featured in the documentary Art Meets Science & Spirituality in a Changing Economy.

“We are internally related to everything, not [just] externally related. Consciousness is an internal relationship to the whole, we take in the whole, and we act toward the whole. Whatever we have taken in determines basically what we are.

I think the difficulty is this fragmentation, first of all. Everybody, all thought is broken up into bits. Like this nation, this country, this industry, this profession and so on… And they can’t meet. It’s extremely hard to break into that.

But that comes about primarily because thought has developed traditionally in a way such that it claims not to be effecting anything but just telling you “the way things are.” Therefore, people cannot see that they are creating a problem and then apparently trying to solve it.

Let’s take a problem like pollution, or the ecology. See, the ecology in itself is not a problem. It works perfectly well by itself. Its due to us, right? It’s a problem because we are thinking in certain ways by breaking it up and each person is doing his own thing.

Therefore the ecological problem is due to thought, right? But thought thinks it’s a problem out there and I must solve it. That doesn’t make sense because simultaneously thought is doing all the things which make the problem and then tries to do another set of activities to try and overcome it. See, it doesn’t stop doing the things which are making the ecological problem, or the national problem, or whatever the problem is.

The earth is one household really, but we are not treating it that way, so that’s the first step in economics is to say the earth is one household and all that depends on, its all one you see…

Now, the implicate order would help us to see that, to see everything enfolds, everybody, not merely depends on everybody, but actually everybody is everybody in a deeper sense. See, we are the earth because all our substance comes from the earth and goes back. I mean, its wrong to say its an environment, just surrounding us. That would be like the brain regarding the stomache as part of its environment.

The word com-passion is to feel together, and if people have the same feeling together, they are responsible for each other, then you have compassion.

I don’t think that there is such a thing as original sin. I think it has developed more and more with the growth of our society. There is no evidence that people in a hunter/gatherer society were all that competitive. But the more you made society big and you had organization, and you had to get to the top, and people on the bottom would suffer. There was a drive to compete, naturally. It’s not a weakness, it’s a mistake.

So the first thing we have to do, in the long run, is to look at our way of thinking, which has developed over so many thousands of years. I don’t think it was the original way of thinking of the human race at all, but for many complex reasons it came about.

Now, that means that people have to participate, to make a cooperative effort, to have a dialogue, a real dialogue, in which we will not merely exchange opinions, but actually listen deeply to the views of other people, without resistance.

And we cannot do this if we hold to our own opinion and resist the other. It doesn’t mean we should accept the other, but we have to be able to look at all the opinions and suspend it, as it were, in front of us, without carrying them out, without supressing them.

Wholeness is an attitude or an approach, but can be given a scientific realization, because of relativity and quantum theory, we can if we wish look on the world as a whole.

Consciousness is really our most immediate experience of this implicate order. You may think of nets of consciousness that are finer and finer, or we may think of capturing finer and finer aspects of the implicate order. I think there is an intelligence that is implicit there, a kind of intelligence unfolds. The source of intelligence is not necessarily in the brain, you see, but much more enfolded into the whole. Now, the question of what you want to call it God, that depends on what you mean by the word, you see. Because taking it as a personal God might restrict it, in some way.

I think science has begun to replace religion as the major source of the world view, and therefore, if science takes a fragmentary world view it will have a profound effect on consciousness.

Science is whatever people make of it, science has changed over the ages and it is different now from a few hundred years ago, and it could be different again. There is no intrinsic reason why science must necessarily be about measurement. That is another historical development that has come about over the last few centuries. It is entirely contingent and not absolutely necessary.

Einstein eventually moved toward a view of field theory where everything was one field, all fields merging, so it was a step toward wholeness. It was a limited step, but still it was the beginning.

Wholeness is not a place you can get to, wholeness is a kind of attitude or approach to the whole of life. It’s a way. If we can have a coherent approach to reality then reality will respond coherently to us.

But Nature has been tremendously affected by our way of thinking on the earth. Nature is now being destroyed. There is very little left on the earth which wasn’t affected by how we were thinking.

[If we have coherence] we will produce the results we intend rather than the results we don’t intend. That’s the first big change. Then we will be more orderly, harmonious, we will be happier. I think we can put all that in there. But the major source of unhappiness [on our planet] is that we are incoherent and therefore are producing results that we don’t really want, and then trying to overcome them while we keep on producing them.”

Insight and Non-thinking

In the historical dimension (in space and time) or in the phenomenal world, all phenomena are not the objective reality; they are objects of my mind. So, I understand that if I am ego (separate self), everything I see is an illusion. And if I am true self (non-separate self), everything I see is the reality. Everything depends on who we are.

Because ego has wrong perceptions or wrong views which cause unnecessary afflictions and incorrect thinking. And true self has the right view which means the absence of all views or all perceptions. BTW, simply the wrong view means "I am special and separate". If we are mindful and concentrated, we can attain insight (the right view). And when the right view is solid in us, we can have the right thinking.

Thay said, "Right Thinking reflects the way things are. Wrong thinking causes us to see in an 'upside-down way'" and "Non-thinking is there. We are in deeper contact with reality, free of words and concepts." So, Right Thinking means Non-thinking. I feel that these words are applicable not only to an enlightened person but also to all animals, plants and minerals. Because they don't think and are always mindful. All the elements of humans, animals, plants and minerals are the same, as water, air, earth and sunshine. And each particle and energy of the elements is enfolding consciousness. So, the disintegrated human body and consciousness must be there even inside of the rocks.

Silly Humans

My answer to the question of "Can animals, plants, minerals have Consciousness and can they become enlightened?" is as follows:

Yes, I feel so. Because they don't think, they are always mindful. They have never created notions, ideas, views, beliefs like silly humans. So, they don't have to suffer from separation or discrimination at all. And they don't need to waste their precious time and energy to throw them away. They don't need to gain intelligence for that. They can touch the wonders of life and attain insights without making efforts and enjoy their simple life. In this sense, all animals, plants and minerals have been enlightened since their manifestation. So, I really feel how silly we, humans are! We create notions, suffer a lot, practice a lot for throwing away all notions, and finally attain enlightenment. Humans are silly creatures who stir up trouble in order to be rewarded for solving it.

I understand that all of us (humans, animals, plants and minerals) are the same as the whole cosmos. Because all of us are made of water, air, earth and sunshine. And we are circulating within ecosystem physically and consciously by changing the forms. In other words, each particle or energy of our body is enfolding consciousness. So, we are the whole cosmos. All the past genetic ancestors and spiritual ancestors are in us and we are in the future genetic descendants and spiritual descendants.

Self-transformation (2)

It may take long time but there is a possibility for self-transformation from separate self to non-separate self. If Usāma bin Lādin was in a receptive, cooperative state of mind, it may have happened in a moment. If self-transformation happened in him, it was easy to heal his wounded inner child and to release his ego with pleasure. Then, changing his liquidation plans would automatically occur.

The root cause of all problems is ego. If a friction occurs between your ego and the other's ego, the stress and problems occur. If either of you release your own ego, both of you can avoid stress. However, if either of you can't release your ego, you can't solve problems. Only if both sides release own ego, problems can be solved. One example is Tibetan issue. Even H.H. the Dalai Lama has not been able to solve the problem for more than 50 years by negotiation with Chinese communist leaders. Another example is Israeli-Palestinian issues.

Loving speech and deep listening capacity are the key to restore communications and reconcile. For loving speech and deep listening, both sides have to return to non-separate self and release their ego (separate self). If both sides open their heart, listen deeply, look deeply and understand the other's sufferings, problems will be solved through reconciliation. Psychopath

What if you were the psychopath? There must be a reason why.

It is understandable for a person who experienced a serious abuse right after the birth to modify neural circuit for self-protection. If the person does not have the dendritic connections, s/he may be able to stop reactions to sufferings in expense of the loss of empathic reactions.

I guess that pharmaceutical (chemicals) treatment can't cure the psychopath. That's because the root cause is not the brain (matter) but is the subconscious. I understand the brain is a computer for the subconscious. Meditation might have a salutary effect. I feel the most effective method is my own method of reviving true self, healing inner child, releasing ego who have been protecting wounded inner child by cutting empathic reactions.

I guess the defects are not inherited at birth but are created in relation with parents and surrounding people after birth. Regarding the purpose of reincarnation of a serial killer, I guess the position was opposite in their past life between the criminal and the victim. So, the purpose may be to teach the misery of killing and torture to the victim who was the killer in past life. However, the serial killer (teacher) creates a new negative karma, so has to pay for that in the future. At that time, s/he has to pass a retest by forgiving the killer without revenge.

I guess that the point of the karmic imperative is nothing but the evolution of humanity. Justice is a notion for self-justification which separates oneself from others. For example, President Obama and Ms. Clinton defended themselves by explaining that the assassination of Usāma bin Lādin was carried out for the justice. But there is no justice for killing people. It was nothing but an excuse. The motivation might be right but the method was wrong at least. If he still had a power to harm others, the assassination may have been inevitable in order to save many innocent people. But it was not a case. If the victim can forgive the criminal (not the crime), it's the proof that the victim has returned to non-separate self. In those cases, I guess that recombination of gene in brain may occur.

Ego and Egocentrism

Some people say that there is a great difference between the Ego and Egocentrism. In their definition, the ego doesn't water the evil seeds, while the egocentric waters the evil seeds. My definition of ego is a little different from theirs as follows: Ego (separate self) is made up by wounded inner child for self-protection from parents in babyhood. Ego has the distorted view (egocentrism?) which separates oneself from others that is "I am special, separate and superior to others". Separation, or discrimination is the root cause of sufferings, so ego is the source of sufferings.

So, in my definition, ego is almost the same as egocentric. A slight difference is that egocentric is the exaggeration of ego. I don't deny ego to some extent for our physical survival as the right to live. In fact, ego (separate self) and true self (non-separate self) are interdependent. They are the right side and the left side of a sheet of paper. If we remove ego, true self is also removed. If ego is there, true self is already there. This is called Emptiness (interdependence) or Middle Way in Buddhism and is the way how to transcend the duality.

I feel that most of arts and sports are the sensory level satisfaction which is temporary. I don't deny it if it doesn't harm others but it changes to anger and hatred if it exceeds the limit. In other words, they are nothing but attachment or addictions. Of course, there may be some exceptions which can offer the mental level comfort which is long lasting.

Self-transformation

A serial killer's brain may be hardwired in a cyclical compulsion. But there must be a therapy to cure it. That's because no baby is born as an evil. There must be a root cause of the brain which is hardwired in a cyclical compulsion. I guess that the inner child had to make up ego (separate self) for self-protection in babyhood in relation with parents and the ego must be the root cause of the brain hardwired in a cyclical compulsion.

I understand that everyone has both good seeds and evil seeds within oneself according to karma till the past life. It is up to who you are, whether you water the good seeds or the evil seeds. If you are ego, you water the evil seeds. If you are true self (non-separate self), you water the good seeds. It is possible to transform your ego to true self in subconscious. I guess the recombination of gene in brain occurs if this self-transformation is completed.

If I use a parable, it will be as follows: "A bug born from a tree eats up the whole tree. A bug can be liken to the wisdom and a tree can be liken to the disturbing mind. Therefore, the disturbing mind itself eliminates the disturbing mind through the wisdom born from the disturbing mind." Thích Nhất Hạnh said, "Just as rust produced by iron corrodes iron, so is the violator of moral law destroyed by his own wrong action."

Mystery of Human Life (You are already enlightened!)

http://www.slideshare.net/compassion5151/human-life-39415010

1. Wounded inner child

Our ego (separate self) is made up by our wounded inner child for self-protection because we were not accepted unconditionally by our parents (unconsciously) in babyhood. Our inner child is frightened at parents of fear and insecurity because s/he can't pull out oneself as a baby.

Its purpose is to revive our past life's mental disposition according to the imprinted karma on our subconscious. That's why we chose our parents to make up the past life's ego and resume our new journey in this life from the end of our past life,

Therefore, our memories in babyhood may be covered up. If so, the family is a well planned ego manifestation factory and is a training center for evolution of humanity.

2. Ego (separate self)

Most people believe ego (separate self or fake self) is oneself. That's because ego is in unconscious and can't be recognized consciously. Therefore, ego grows until true self revives.

People are not aware that their ego doesn't protect them and rather causes sufferings, because ego separates oneself from others.

Ego has a distorted view of "I am special, separate and superior to others" which is one of wrong perceptions (afflictions). So, ego always sees illusions through mental projection and can't see the reality.

3. True self (non-separate self)

Most people may not have recognized that everyone has been enlightened since born. However, the truth is that your ego (separate self) is covering up true self (non-separate self or god). The key is who you are.

There are various methods to revive true self such as mindfulness, yoga and my own method of unconditional self-acceptance. But there is a difference between Self-Inquiry method and Meditation method.

My own method is a Self-Inquiry method and enables us to revive true self through unconditional self-acceptance, heal our inner child and release our ego with pleasure for transcending the duality by one time attempt. Therefore, our ego will never cover up true self again.

4. Healing wounded inner child

Most people can't recognize our wounded inner child in subconscious. However, if you have ego, your wounded inner child is definitely covered up by your ego.

Once true self revives, it is possible to recognize the sufferings of our wounded inner child, embrace it, relieve it, listen deeply, look deeply into it, understand the root cause, generate the energy of compassion and heal our wounded inner child.

If we succeed in healing our wounded inner child, s/he will never make up ego again for self-protection. That's because s/he doesn't have fear and insecurity any more.

5. Releasing ego with pleasure

Once our wounded inner child is healed, s/he doesn't need to make up ego anymore. As a result, the power of our ego is automatically weakened. Therefore, true self can easily release ego with pleasure.

So, there is no liberation because there never was any bondage. Everything was nothing but an illusion. But this illusion was intentionally created by ourselves, or subconscious.

These are the whole picture of Mystery of Human Life. We are being tested how we react to the same situation as our past life. It is like a makeup examination or a retest. We have to pass the examination or the test to overcome our past mistakes. Our life is for evolution of humanity.

The root cause of ego

Video of A Meeting of Diverse Spiritual Traditions can be viewed now at: http://new.livestream.com/accounts/5587887/events/3399129?logged_in=1411189351

I was impressed by the wonderful conclusions that was education without ethics is useless or rather harmful.

A religious leader pointed out that ego is the source of all problems and sufferings. The root cause of ego is the key. I understand our ego is made up by wounded inner child for self-protection because we were not accepted unconditionally by our parents in babyhood.

So, we made up our ego (separate self) who has the distorted view which separates oneself from others to revive our past life's mental disposition according to the imprinted karma on our subconscious.

We chose our parents to make up the past life's ego. Its purpose is to resume our new journey in this life from the end of our past life for evolution of humanity.

That's why our memories in babyhood may be covered up. If so, the family is a well planned ego manifestation factory and is a training center for evolution of humanity.

I guess Buddha knew this whole story but did not mention it because if we know everything, the plan of evolution of humanity may not work well.

However, I feel everyone needs to wake up right now by understanding this whole plan. Because we are fed up by too much corruption based on greed in politics, economies and administrations.

I am sure that education can play an important role to teach the whole story and plan of our life. However, in order to change education, we need to change politics first, and next economic system.

My insight through the Meeting of Diverse Spiritual Traditions

Mystery of Consciousness

1. Store consciousness, Karma and Ego
Wholesome or unwholesome seeds in the store consciousness mean our imprinted previous karma till our past life. And we (the store consciousness) chose our parents to make up the particular ego (separate self) which was planned according to the imprinted past life's karma. Our parents, grand parents and all ancestors must have had the same or similar ego as their children's ego. That's because we need to revive our past life's ego (mental disposition) in babyhood to resume our new journey in this life from the end of our past life. Therefore, our memories in babyhood may be covered up. Our family can be said as a well planned ego manifestation factory and a training center for evolution of humanity. In this way, our karma reincarnate.

2. Seeds, Perception, View and Self
The seeds in the store consciousness germinate according to our perception. If we have wrong perception (afflictions), it waters unwholesome seeds and if we have right perception (detachment), it waters wholesome seeds. Therefore, selective watering is carried out by our perception. And one of wrong perceptions (afflictions) is the distorted view, or Manas (I am special and separate) which separates oneself from others. Furthermore, the distorted view (Manas) is caused by separate self, or ego. On the other hand, one of right perceptions (detachment) is the right view (we are all the same fundamentally) which accepts all without separation or discrimination. Furthermore, the right view is caused by non-separate self, or true self.

3. Consciousness, Brain, Mental formations
Our thinking is caused by the mind consciousness (brain) and mental projection is caused by unwholesome mental formations manifested in the mind consciousness (brain). That's why we see illusions through mental projection. On the other hand, our mindfulness is caused by the store consciousness (subconscious) followed by wholesome mental formations manifested in the mind consciousness (brain). That's why we can see the reality through insight (holistic view).

4. Evolution of Humanity
As a conclusion, we are being tested how we react to the same situation as our past life. It is like a makeup examination. We have to pass the makeup examination to overcome our past mistakes. This is the method for the evolution of humanity. We are the store consciousness.

エゴと問題解決 Ego and problem-solving

自分さえエゴを手放せば、どんな相手ともストレスは生じません。

しかし、自分だけエゴを手放しても、相手がエゴを手放さない限り、問題は解決しません。

問題は双方がエゴを手放さない限り、解決しないのです。

If you release your ego, stress will never occur between any counterparts.

However, problems won't be solved if your counterparts don't release their ego.

Problems will be solved only if both sides release own ego.
