Wise Selfish & Foolish Selfish

We naturally have self-interest but it should be wise rather than foolish self-interest by taking others needs into account as well as ours.
(From His Holiness the Dalai Lama's tweet on June 11, 2013)

This means that if we want to be happy, we should practice compassion to others.
(My reply to HHDL's above tweet)

(Commentary)
Foolish self-interest means the care for the
happiness of oneself only, without knowing that
oneself will suffer from negative consequences if
oneself carries out actions by caring for the
happiness of oneself only.
* Wise self-interest means the care for the happiness
of others, knowing that oneself will obtain benefits
and be happy if oneself carries out actions by caring
for the happiness of others.
