Seed of Compassion 思いやりの種

His Holiness the Dalai Lama defines 'Level 2: Biological factor based love' as 1st level of compassion and defines 'level 3: Infinite altruism' as 2nd level of compassion. But I strongly recommend that he will rename 1st level of compassion as a "seed of compassion" or "instinct", to avoid misunderstanding. Biological factor like motherly love is biased and attached, so is not reason or ethics. But it is a seed of compassion which can be developed to reason or ethics by wisdom and practice. His Holiness the Dalai Lama sometimes says, "Secular ethics is a biological factor". If so, what he is trying to do will be promotion of 1st level of compassion into school education. But I believe that his real intention is introduction of 2nd level of compassion into school curriculum. Maybe his definition of secular ethics include both 1st level and 2nd level of compassion but these two are totally different. Because 1st level of compassion is unconscious instinct, and 2nd level of compassion is conscious reason.

ダライ·ラマ法王は、 「レベル2：生物学的な愛情」を第1レベルの思いやりと定義し、「レベル3：無限の愛」を第2レベルの思いやりと定義されています。しかし、誤解を避けるために、第1レベルの思いやりを「思いやりの種」又は「本能」と改名されることを私は強くお薦めします。母性愛のような生物学的要因は偏っており、執着していますので、理性や倫理ではありません。しかし、それは智慧と実践によって理性や倫理に発展させることができる思いやりの種です。ダライ·ラマ法王は時々「世俗的（非宗教的）倫理は生物学的な要因である」とご発言されます。もしそうだとすれば、法王が目指していることは、学校教育への第1レベルの思いやりの推進になります。しかし、法王の本当の意図は、学校のカリキュラムに第2レベルの思いやりを導入することであると信じています。たぶん、法王の世俗的倫理の定義は、思いやりの第1レベルと第2レベルの両方を含むのでしょうが、この二つは全く異なります。第1レベルの思いやりは無意識的本能であり、第2レベルの思いやりは意識的理性であるからです。
